TPL’s Eastside Microlibrary is now open!

Starting in September, members of Tacoma’s Eastside community can connect with the services, programs, and materials of Tacoma Public Library at the Eastside Microlibrary, hosted at the Eastside Community Center!

The Eastside Microlibrary is located in the tech lounge at Metro Parks Tacoma’s Eastside Community Center, just inside the main entrance. You can check out items from the kiosk such as books, graphic novels, DVDs, and museum passes with your TPL card. If you don’t have a library card, our Outreach Librarian Jamie can issue you one! She’ll also be hosting programs for all ages in the tech lounge. If you have an idea for a program you’d like to see at the Eastside Microlibrary, send her a suggestion through email at jgilmore@tacomalibrary.org.

The Eastside Microlibrary is the first of its kind in Western Washington, and we are thankful to the Tacoma City Council for making this project possible.

In collaboration with the City of Tacoma’s Office of Arts and Cultural Vitality, TPL selected and commissioned local artist Dionne Bonner, opens a new window to design a vinyl wrap for the Eastside Microlibrary. Bonner is a visual artist and graphic designer who uses art as a catalyst to dialogue and reflection. A Tacoma Artist Initiative Project (TAIP) funded artist, Bonner participated in the Lincoln District Revitalization project, engaging the residents of the Lincoln Neighborhood in creating a street mural. In summer 2018, Bonner was selected for the Eastside Training Cohort, part of the Eastside Community Center’s Public Art program. She was then selected to create the Eastside Community Center Youth Memorial, currently in progress.
