Tacoma Public Library is now offering more in-building hours! Most locations have resumed their pre-pandemic hours.
You do not need an appointment for general library visits. However, you can make an appointment to visit the Northwest Room or Digital Media Lab at Main Library through the Visit a Library page.
Current hours by location:
Fern Hill, Main*, Moore, South Tacoma, Swasey, and Wheelock Libraries
Tuesdays and Wednesdays | 12–8 p.m. |
Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays | 10 a.m.–6 p.m. |
*Main Library is under construction through fall 2022 and has limited services. Main’s Lobby is open for books and materials check-out, library sign-ups, and program kit pick up. Public restrooms, printing, copies, and computer use are not available.

Tuesdays and Wednesdays |
12–3 p.m. Closed 3–4 p.m. 4–8 p.m. |
Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays |
10 a.m.–1 p.m. Closed 1–2 p.m. 2 –6 p.m. |

Patrons must continue to wear masks and practice social distancing while visiting libraries.
TPL continues to offer virtual programs, services, and assistance, as well as contactless holds pickup for patrons who do not wish to enter library buildings.
