May is National Historic Preservation Month! Each May the Tacoma Landmarks Preservation Commission celebrates local individuals, groups, businesses, and civic organizations that promote historic places that demonstrate the social and economic benefits of historic preservation. This year's Historic Preservation Month theme is “People Saving Places,” which marks a year of highlighting the stories and successes of the people working to preserve places significant to Tacoma’s diverse communities, and of improving the equitable access to the services of the Tacoma Historic Preservation Program.
"The Annual Preservation Awards are a great way to shine a light on the people and projects working to keep Tacoma's history alive, whether that's by renovating a historic building or boosting lesser-known stories of our shared past,” explained Historic Preservation Coordinator Susan Johnson.
