John Miller - Gardening knowledge key to productivity. Mr. Miller was a master gardener, in all sense of the word. He helped others with their gardening efforts through the Master Gardener Program Clinics sponsored by the Pierce County Cooperative Extension Service while doing an excellent job in keeping up with gardening at his own home. Mr. Miller, pictured above in August of 1974 watering his garden, had just harvested a bumper crop of potatoes from his 65 x 135-foot lot overlooking the Sound that were destined for the Tacoma Rescue Mission. Besides potatoes, he had produced tomatoes, cucumbers, broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower, beets and other vegetables. His yard was made beautiful with conifers, rhododendrons and flowers of many types as well as fruit trees.
