Both the fish she caught, and the bicycle she won were a little too big for Geraldine Stiltner of 3121 N 8th St. Geraldine was the big winner in the "Dad & Daughter" division of the 11th Annual Tacoma Poggie Club Salmon Derby held in July of 1948 at Point Defiance. Her King salmon, weighing 14 pounds 2 ounces, won her the new girls’ bicycle. All boys and girls between 7 and 16 years old were welcomed into the contest; a record 296 children competed, and over 100 salmon were caught.
