In this photograph from December 1944, T/4 James B. Shettlesworth of Oroville, California, a wounded soldier at Madigan General Hospital, receives a visit and a packet of gifts from Mrs. Jack Davies, chairman of the Pierce County Red Cross division of the Hospital and Recreation Service. The Pierce and Thurston County chapters of the Red Cross joined together, along with other Tacoma agencies, to bring Christmas cheer to the military personnel who could not be home for Christmas. Over 4,000 Christmas gifts were delivered to the soldier patients and military staff at Madigan.
