Sculptor Tom Hardy of Portland supervising the hanging of "Flight of Birds" at the new Villa Plaza branch location of National Bank of Washington. Assisting him on April 18, 1962, was bank manager John Smithson. More than 80 birds in flight, each made up of at least four separately welded parts. They were made of welded steel and embellished wing tips in gold leaf. National Bank of Washington's new Villa Plaza branch location celebrated its grand opening in May, 1962.
